Portable Air Conditioners require an exhaust hose to take the hot air generated by the unit, out of the room you are trying to cool.

Through a window or door:

The simplest method is to open a window or door and hang the exhaust hose out of the window or door, then close the window or door as much as possible to limit the outside air coming in.

Good points:

  • Fast and easy to do.
  • Allows for the portable unit to be used in any room that has a window or door.
  • Does not leave any fixtures and fittings behind after use.
  • No additional cost.

Bad points:

  • It is not 100% efficient and can allow external air to come in.
  • It is not recommended to do this overnight or when there is no-one home due to security reasons.

Using the supplied sash window sealing kit:

The sash window kit is only suitable for sliding windows. It can be adjusted for length and has a hole for the exhaust hose to go through. This stops the external air from coming in.

Good points:

  • Fast and easy to do.
  • More efficient.
  • Can be removed if required.

Bad points:

  • Requires you to leave the window open.
  • It is not recommended to do this overnight or when there is no-one home due to security reasons.

Using a window sealing kit:

Window sealing kits are available from many stores. They are a fabric material that can be secured to your window and have a hole for the exhaust hose to go through. This stops the external air from coming in.

Good points:

  • Fast and easy to do.
  • More efficient.
  • Can be removed if required.
  • Inexpensive.

Bad points:

  • Requires you to leave the window open.
  • It is not recommended to do this overnight or when there is no-one home due to security reasons.

Using a wall kit:

A wall kit allows you you connect the exhaust hose to a mounting system in your wall. The kit will need to be installed and a hole made through the wall. A vent can be installed that can be closed off during colder seasons.

Good points:

  • Neat and tidy
  • Allows the Air Conditioning unit to operate with maximum efficiency
  • Can have multiple wall kit installed in different rooms.
  • Wall kits are inexpensive

Bad points:

  • Require some DIY knowledge to install
  • May require to contact a builder and associated costs.
  • Is almost permanent once installed.

Can I extend the exhaust hose or use a longer one?

The supplied hose is 1.5metres long and 14.5cm in diameter .

Yes, you can extend it as much as you like, however we do not recommend for you to use a hose that is less than 12cm in diameter as this may reduce the exhaust airflow and reduce the performance.

Will a tumble drier hose work?

Yes this is the same type of hose and will work just fine.
